Materials

Nanophorm has experience with nearly every "diamond-machinable" material.  Diamond-machinable materials are those that can be cut with a diamond to achieve incredible surface finish and mechanical accuracy.  A listing of such materials follows.

Many materials that can't be diamond turned can be plated with a material that is, such as high-phosphorous electroless nickel or one of many copper alloys.

  • metals

    • Aluminum alloys - 6061 and 2024 being the most common
    • Copper alloys - type 101 OFHC and 110 being the most common
    • Brass
    • Bronze
    • Beryllium Copper alloys such as MoldMax HH
    • Alumiplate
    • High-phosphorous Electroless Nickel Plating
    • Copper - Nickel Plating
    • Copper Plating
    • Tin
    • Antimony
  • Polymers

    • PMMA - Acrylic
    • COP - Zeonex
    • Polystyrene
    • Polycarbonate
    • PEI - Ultem
  • CRYSTALS AND GLASSES

    • Germanium
    • Zinc Selenide
    • Zinc Sulfide
    • Chalconide Glasses - Schott ID Glass
    • Indium Antimonide, Mercury Cadmium Telluride
    • Silicon

Examples of components machined from materials that are not "diamond-machinable" but plated with one that is:  electroless-nickel-plate.  Here steel substrates have been plated with special nickel and then diamond turned.  At top is an on-axis asphere.  At bottom is an off-axis paraboloid
